What in the WORLD?
A bad exercise program can look a lot like ADHD..
…in the sense that both create a cycle of constant switching, lack of focus, and inconsistent results.
Your programming lacks far-sightedness; therefor your progress hits a plateau and you’re constantly dealing with some sort of injury.
Think of exercise programming and ADHD in this framework
Someone with ADHD often jumps between tasks because focus is hard to maintain. A bad training program does the same thing. The body never receives enough consistent stimulus to adapt.
This results in your wheels spinning both in your head, and in your fitness.
ADHD brains often seek new stimulation to stay engaged. The learning of new things is intriguing. A poorly designed training plan does this too; with new exercises every workout and attempting to bio-hack your way to fitness on the mountain.
All you’re really doing each new workout is starting over. Variety is key for progression, but not variety with every single workout.
With ADHD, it can be difficult to decide what matters most right now. Your exercise program might constantly feel like patch work as you try to piece together a decent routine, without hurting yourself. You can boost your endurance, and bolster your strength, but it takes more than slapping some squats and knee extensions together, then going for a jog afterward for that to happen.
When you try to emphasize cardio, strength, and mobility, and try to do them all optimally..you’re consistency won’t last too long.
The lack of long-term planning with your program is what’s killing your fitness. It generally isn’t the effort with most folks who are already going to the gym. Ya’ll got the effort down..let’s just some chains on those damn tires for traction
Instead of jumping around, you're stacking small improvements for months.
That’s the progress you’ll feel on the mountain.
That’s it for this month.
Keep showing up, keep cheering each other on in and out of the fitness realm — and as always, giver hell!
